At 14:43 hours your Plymouth Fire Company No. 1 (Montco 43) volunteers and career staff were dispatched with ROC units on the initial assignment to the 700 block of W. Lafayette Street to assist the Norristown Fire Department on a reported dwelling fire.
NFD units arrived with fire showing from the 2nd floor of a 3 story MOR dwelling. Ladder, Utility, Chief and Deputy Chief 43 with a crew of 8 responded and assumed first due truck company responsibilities. The ladder positioned on the alpha side and command ordered the crew to the roof for vertical ventilation. Personnel went to work cutting mutliple holes and began a trench cut as fire began spreading to multiple exposure dwellings. Command struck the 2nd alarm and as conditions deteriorated ordered all companies out of the building. Ladder 43 transitioned to a defensive position and flowed their master stream to assist with extinguishment. Simultaneously, the crew began throwing over 200 feet of ground ladders around the buildings and eventually re-entered exposure dwellings to open up and wet down hot spots.
Mutliple regional mutual aid and assisting departments operated for several hours with multiple hoselines to bring the fire under control. Ladder 43 was released and available after 18:30 hours. Station 43 expresses our thoughts and well wishes to all families affected by this incident especially on the eve of Thanksgiving.
